Got word from the boss: "Back to work on Monday!"
Huh... after only 30 days working from home, I sorta banked on this whole isolation thing to last a couple of months more...
Lando Is "Highlando"
When there are too many space-travellin’ scoundrels, self-preservation helps thin out the herd.
Yes, Lando’s talky-talk balloon is a glaringly obvious “Highlander” parody.
Kitty With Bag On Head
This painting was inspired by a YouTube video (via facebook) of a kitty with a chip bag stuck on its head.
“Kitty Rampant In A Field Of Flowers Chasing A Butterfly With A Baggy On Its Head” (c.2010)
The original painting’s aspect ratio was more-or-less square-ish. I extended the canvas’ width a few years later, adding more background: flower fields; clouds; sky.
The kitty portrayed in the painting, and butterfly chase, was inspired by the kitty I animated in the “award-winning” FlipBook movie short, “The Clyde”.
(BTW: that Clyde animation was made on a 2G iPhone - drawn frame-by-frame.)
Easter Bun Hoard 2020
#happyeasterween
Covid-19 has rudely disrupted just about everything for everybody. And Easter, for most people, has been totally ruined - it literally climbed up onto the festively decorated dinner table, pulled down its pants and peed all over the smoked pork butt ‘n’ taters!
Lucky for me, thanks to my way-under-the-radar micro hoarding* over the last two weeks, I found an upside.
(* micro hoarding: where one goes to one grocery store and buys only the essentials… then, on the way home, drops by a second store and buys the exact same items & quantity - with some wiggle room for product alternates.) (No, I’m not crazy.)
Makeshift Face Mask
What to do when there are ZERO protective face masks on shelves?
Why, you be creative!

Fathom Boy® Don't Need No Stinkin' Mask
A global company email was sent out to all workers. Subject line read “We have face masks for all who want them!”
But Fathom Boy® refused and replied with the following statement:
Kwik Birthday Doodle - More Valuable Than Apple Stock
Blow out the candle and your 3-Ply wish might come true!
Choose Your Aisle
Hoarding toilet paper. That’s right. It’ll be the single thing historians will point to and say “yeah, they were really REALLY stupid back then”.
But the one thing - the one aisle - the panicking masses had overlooked was literally the sweeeetest of ‘em all: the GODDAMN CONFECTIONARY aisle!

Meesa Luvs Star Wars Shorts!
Now, before you condemn me, lemme explain…
Doodled up as a Facebook comment in a post by Starlog's editor, David McDonnell, where he briefly chronicles Lucasfilm/Cartoon Network's "Clone Wars" micro-series - or shorts - made around 2003-2005.
Hence… the shorts.
On its own and without context, this doodle makes no sense. I suppose it could make an okay t-shirt print... yet, set aside the anything-Star-Wars-is-great crazies out there, who'd wear it?
Dido vs. Ditto
I sent out an email with the Dr. FuzzyButt's Medical Minute doodle responding to a Flu Vaccinations email from the company where I work.
Received the following feedback:
Email Rejoiner #1: Would you hurry up and go and get an animation job! Amazing work as usual!
Email Rejoiner #2 in response to the above: Yeah... Dido!
Dido?
According to Webster's Dictionary, did Email Respondent #2 mean I should perform mischievous or capricious acts?
Maybe.
Or did Email Rejoiner #2 actually mean Ditto? Well, no way was I gonna let this slide. So I sent Rejoiner #2 a query, below:
I didn't stop there.
So I sent this:
And then this:
Dr. FuzzyButt's Medical Minute : Cat Breath
Got a fever? Persistent cough? Headache? Twitching Evil Eye? Hmmm… you should really give Dr. FuzzyButt a call. STAT!!!
Doodled this for the eldest sister of my official #1 fan/friend whom shared a pic of her visibly ill daughter with the family’s cat all snuggled up in there, either to (a) provide comfort, or (b) soak up the extra warmth radiating from the patient’s fever.
Dr. FuzzyButt’s Medical Minute : The Cat Breath Cure.
A Literal Fillet 'O' Fish In Its Native Aquatic Habitat
Can’t recall what inspired me to paint this - it’s a good bet I was procrastinating and found myself drawing a fish; the “M” logo, buns and tartar sauce were a happy accident!

Trump in SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE!
Look, ma’! I see a new star in the sky… wait… nevermind, it’s just an orange sack’o’crap floating around in orbit.
“Save me SPACE FORCE™!”
Backstory: MSNBC had an inspiring segment for the upcoming 34th Shuttle Challenger anniversary. It was a short, nostalgic piece, but I wanted more. So I drifted away over to youtube and watched grainy 1986 archival footage of CBS’ “Live” launch coverage and ultimately “Breaking News” with Dan Rather.
After an hour of this, I flipped back to MSNBC to watch that bloated orange sack’o’crap in front of the WH press core just barfing up horribleness about everyone not named “Trump” - you know, the usual behaviour of a grifter who’d say anything to disparage, deflect, create social carnage… you can guess I’m no fan of this clown (I look forward to your comments).
And with that, the Challenger anniversary, recent rumblings from Team Trump about Space Force, my utter disdain for this president… I HAD to draw something (I can’t keep yelling at the TV forever).
The Trouble With Toddlers
Is it just me (and Captain Kirk), or has this whole Baby Yoda meme thing on the socials gone too far?
Happy Life Day | Starlog *FAKE* Cover #19
My third and last Starlog *fake* magazine cover, originally posted on Facebook’s Starlog Magazine Fan Group page - before banishment.
Was a little bored over whatever weekend I posted the *fake* cover; that, and after seeing numerous other *fake* cover efforts posted by group members (as hard to look at as they were) got me in the mood to - how can I put this - DO SOMETHING WAY BETTER!
Unused *fake* #19 cover.
The Star Wars Holiday Special originally had Chewbacca as a "Life Day" religious zealot with a Ralph Kramden-like temperament... before being completely rewritten with a variety-show focus.
Ah well.
This time ‘round, I decided not to deviate from the ACTUAL cover’s layout: just replace the main photography with a new hero painting (Chewie); drench the cover lines with parody and sarcasm; and creating two additional paintings to accompany the two main cover lines.
Below is my original Facebook post:
And below is the ACTUAL Starlog #19 cover as seen on newsstands in 1979, for comparison:
Below is the ACTUAL hero artwork used in the fake Starlog #41’s cover:
And below are the two extra paintings used in the main cover lines.
Leonard Nimoy From the 1978 remake of “Invasion Of The Body Snatchers”. The red lighting “flare” - a happy accident!
Galactica’s “Athena” in body paint. Why pay for costume hire when you can just paint on a uniform?
DON'T PANIC! | Starlog *FAKE* Cover #22
This was my SECOND Starlog *fake* cover, originally posted on Facebook’s Starlog Magazine Fan Group page - before banishment. Created at a time when other members were posting fake covers of their own making.
For this installment, I wanted to create something meaningful for Towel Day - an annual celebration on the 25th of May, as a tribute to the late author Douglas Adams (1952-2001) and his pop-cultural masterpiece, The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy saga. Learn a little more from wikipedia here.
To quote my Facebook post:
Unused *fake* cover from Spring 1979...
A flip-of-a-coin editorial decision, the choice was either Moonraker coverage or the 1st anniversary of Hitchhiker.
Ah well.
Painting the HHG2TG-themed artwork was the easy part… the hard part was thinking up cover lines that were (a) funny and (b) shout-outs honoring Douglas Adams’ universe.
